About a week before Big Ty's birthday, he was running a fever. He had the darn thing for 4 1/2 days straight. We were worried, #1 because we are first time parents, #2, because he had never had a real fever before, and #3, because everything else appeared to be normal with him (NO he did not have an ear infection).
When we met with the Dr. on day 4 with a temperature, he sent us to get some blood work done. Now, I am the first to admit that I am a wimp. I have had a little practice with getting/giving shots, and blood draws--Probably more than most people, and although I can handle it, I DO NOT like it. So I was just devastated when I found out I had to take Tyson to get his blood drawn-- and to Quest Labs of all places. (They are not usually the friendliest of people.)
I made us an appointment, hoping to speed things up at the lab, and we were seen very quickly (my attitude about the service there improved slightly.) When they called us back, for paperwork, the ladies were just gushing over Tyson (my attitude about Quest improved dramatically--they have good taste in kids, and that counts for a lot in my book.) They took us to a little room for kids, decorated the best they could on their budget, I am sure, and we sat in the chair. This whole time I was panicked way more than Tyson was. I had to sit with him and hold his arm straight while the nurse found the vein and got the needle in. He had to get 3 vials of blood drawn, and 1 culture. The kid just watched the lady (who was speaking very nicely to him) poke his arm and take the blood. He did not even flinch. I was so amazed. I know it doesn't really hurt to get your blood drawn, but it sure doesn't feel good. And that initial pinch/poke is slightly painful. Well, Tyson was a complete champ. He did not cry, flinch or make a peep. He was very intrigued with the needle, however, and wanted to touch it when she took it out of his arm. I was so proud of him. What a strong little guy.
So these are some pictures from the 2nd draw. We had to repeat the draw a week later to make sure things were fine (same toughness from Tyson, mind you), I brought my camera to document the event. His wife with thank me one day, I am sure.

WOW Ty did a good job at holding still and not crying...and I don't think I could have sat there and held his arm for the nurse to put the needle in... unless I wasnt looking- :) I hate that kind of stuff!
Is he ok though or you havent gotten the test results back?
Man! I cant stand watching J get shots... you are so good! Have you gotten results back from his tests? Hope things are well
What a champ!!!
Crazy that he didn't even care! WOW...I guess it doesn't bother some people...he's lucky to be one of them!
What a little trooper! I hope everything is okay!
What a champ! I'm so proud of little Ty-Ty! I'm TERRIBLE with needles and I always have to look away and hold my breath when they have to take blood!
That's so great. Lila freaks out if I try to brush her hair! Shots at the doctor are like bloody murder! He is such a champ!
