Shaun, our events coordinator, found out about this fundraising run and we all (me & Greg, Lacey & Jeff, Court & Carly--the only trained participant, Faith & Shaun, and Tyler--who was in town for Macy's blessing) thought it would be fun to do. My goal was to finish in 30 minutes or less (I thought for sure I could do 3-10 minutes miles), and thanks to a little shortcut I found along the way, I finished in 29 minutes and 34 seconds.
Lacey, the sweetheart that she is, ran with my slow, fat toosh the entire race (until she spotted the finish line and left me in the dust). About 2 1/2 miles into the race, I saw a break in the fence ahead of me. The other runners were going around the fence, but I was not foolish enough to do that! As soon as I caught sight of that opening, my legs took off. Lacey turned around to see me running through the grass and yelled, "Noel! You can't do that!" I hushed her and motioned for her to follow.. she did, a clear indication of her weariness. Greg says we cut about a quarter mile off. He also said as soon as he saw that opening he would have bet $100 that I was going to cut through there. That is pretty sad, I guess... but it felt oh, so good!

Faith & Shaun with Tyler--the WINNER (of our group)!
...and yes, he did run in those shoes! He decided to join us the night before the race! He kicked our tooshies... I am going to say it's because of his LEGS... those things are LONG. We stubbies didn't have a chance... well, Court did.

Way to go Noel! You are an inspiration to me. I will be running a 5K in September, and am hoping that I can do it under 30 minutes. Maybe I can find a short cut too!
Noel, you rock! You have willingly ran a 4 3/4 K. haha. Seriously, 5 weeks after having a baby I was definitely not running any distance whatsoever.
I love it when our spouses know us so well that they can predict what we will do in different situations! It is one of my favorite things about being married!
First of all, that is just too funny about the shortcut (and Greg knowing that you'd take it.) Second, I once ran a 5k without training first (overconfidence) and I about passed out. Bad idea. Third, I can't believe how AMAZING you look for just having a baby. You have some good genetics girl.
you forgot to mention your kickball skills later that day. What a woman!
Oh my goodness---where do I begin? I can't believe that I missed you running a race! Way to go...I wouldn't even think of it and I don't have a 5 week old to blame it on. 30 minutes is awesome - especially with your new "ladies" you're carrying around! Lookin' good. And you changed your background!! You were my inspiration to change mine to simple, clean, plain white. Now what am I supposed to do?
I know you probably don't want me to write on this but I have to just say I really really miss being there. I have to agree you do look good. I am kind of glad I got to take care of Macy and Tyson, instead of running because I am not sure I could have done it in 30 minutes. Love you, Mom
Okay so I thought that I couldn't wait to be up there with all of you but if this is what you do on a whim ... I may stay in PAGE! :) I am so proud of you all!
Your story made me smile because I can totally picture you taking that shortcut! I hate running and def. would have done the same. What fun to do it with your fam though!
No offense because a day looking at a picture of you is better than any day not looking at a picture of you...but I want Macy!
You're so resourceful with your short cut skillz...and looking splendid I must say. You had several good excuses to be in the back of the pack. For example, it's not easy to run when you're carrying milk jugs on your chest!;)
